Lois hits seven as United girls savour first win of season
MALLOW United U12 A boys took a well deserved three points from their game against Mallow Town at St. Joseph’s road last Saturday afternoon in Division 4 of the Cork Schoolboys League.
Mallow United started well but failed to capitalise on their early dominance and Mallow Town eventually settled into the game creating a great chance only for a combination of Roman Hogan in goal and man of match Eddy Walsh to keep them at bay.
United then had a great opportunity to score mid-way through the first half when the tireless Adam Roche crossed for Shane O’Neill, who failed to control the ball onto this favoured left foot and the chance was snuffed out.
The half remained very tight with Billy O’Hanlon and Darragh O’Shea holding firm in the United defence and chances were at a premium. Mallow United fashioned only one half chance before the break and the 0-0 half-time score was a fair reflection of the game.
The game turned in the second half, however, with Mallow United’s Lord Dossov opening the scoring after 42 minutes, slotting home from a well taken corner to beat the Mallow Town keeper.
As the half progressed Jack Roche, Kevin Looney and Jamie Lowe helped United to gain control in midfield while Leon Atanda added to the threat up front. Minutes later Mallow United capitalised on uncertainty in the opponents defence with Sam Grogan linking well with Adam Roche to put him through for a shot at goal only for Roche to be taken down inside the box.
Dossov comfortably converted the resulting penalty to give Mallow United a firm grip on the game.
United got their third goal on the 55 minute mark when another fantastic pinpoint Lord Dossov corner picked out Shane O’Neill who rose highest to head past the Mallow Town keeper.
Final score: Mallow United A 3 Mallow Town A 0 and an important three points for the home side.
A superb performance by Mallow United U/12 girls saw them take their first win of the season away to Carrigaline in the Cork Womens and Schoolgirls Soccer League Cup.
A free flowing game saw plenty of goals at either end. Titi Kone Sedigui in the Mallow goal was kept busy throughout and played a key role in the Mallow win helped by Niamh Williams, Emma Brown, Danni Walsh and Aisling McCormack who all battled hard in defence.
Mallow trailed 6-5 at half-time but stepped up the pressure in the second half with Doireann Breslin, Molly Buckley, Emily O’Mahony and Rachel Nolan getting the better of the Carrigaline midfield.
Up front, Lois Asante was in unstoppable form finding the back of the net 7 times with Niamh Williams getting another goal for Mallow.
The final score was Carrigaline United 6 Mallow United 8 and a well deserved win for Mallow sees them progress to the next round of the Cup where coaches Kim Walsh and Sophie Tuohy will be hoping for another great effort from the girls.
