Garda escort for the erection of Community Alert signs

-

KANTURK gardai provided an escort for the Dromtarriffe Community Text Alert Group put up new Community Alert signs all around the parish on Thursday last around the borders of Dromtarriffe and Kanturk.

The group were accompanied by a Garda escort for safety reasons, comprising of a Garda car with Garda Kathryn Canty and Garda Mary Brosnan, both of whom were on the point of going off duty when the group contacted Garda Canty, who is their liaison officer for the Cork North Division at very short notice and, to use Garda Canty’s, catchphrase - ‘no bother at all, lads’ - was the answer the group got back. They were with the group in a very short time.

The new signs are being erected by members of the Dromtarriffe / Kilcorney Community Alert Group to make people aware of the telephone numbers to ring if anything suspicious is going on in the area. These signs are quite expensive but are of the highest quality and the group would like the general public to take notice of them as you drive by. Have a look at them and take notice of the numbers to contact but remember you can ring any Garda station anytime and you will be put through to your nearest open 24 hour station.

The Dromtarriffe Community Alert Group have purchased 15 of the signs and over the next few weekends they will be erecting them on all approach roads leading into all the areas covered by the Text Alert Scheme. The Group want to let the undesirables entering these areas know they are not welcome and their movements are being observed. “And the longer they stay on our patch the quicker they will be nabbed because we have the best community liaison officer of An Garda Siochana in the business in Garda Kathryn Canty,” said a spokesperson.

“The group would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to Garda Canty and Garda John Crowley (liaison officer) Cork West Division. Both are always on the other end of the phone if and when needed, on or off duty.”
