The Corkman

Jack L to ring in 2018 with sublime sound sat the Every man Palace

WINTER WARMERS WITH THE KILDARE CROONER

- BILL BROWNE

CRITICALLY acclaimed Irish crooner Jack L is set to ring in 2018 in style with a gig at Cork’s Everyman Palace theatre on New Year’s Eve.

One of Ireland’s most respected singers, Jack Lukeman has a voice once famously described by The Guardian as “a mixture of all the great voices of the 20th Century”.

He has come a long way form his apprenticeship as a mechanic in his native Kildare, where he used the acoustics of an empty garage to fine tune his voice as well as car engines.

Since those humble beginning, Lukeman’s amazing voice has propelled his to domestic and international stardom, selling out headline gigs and performing alongside the likes of U2, Ronnie Wood, John Lee Hooker, Elvis Costello and Robert Plant.

His uncanny ability to interpret other people’s songs is already the stuff of legend and was no more apparent than in his ‘ 27 Club’ show in which he covered songs by artists who all died at the age of 27 including Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin.

However, Jack is equally adept at writing his own material. His heartfelt lyrics, sublime tunes and a voice that many have likened to the late, great Frank Sinatra, have earned him a strong following of loyal fans.

With studio albums, a greatest hits LP and a number of singles under his belt, Jack L has enjoyed a hugely successful recording career.

His most recent album ‘Magic Days’, his firs self-penned album for almost five-years proving he is truly a master of his craft. It has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its ingenious mix of genres tailored to suit Lukeman’s unique voice and enigmatic style with Hot Press describing it as “his best ever album.”

He has also collaborated with writer Anna McPartlin on her book ‘So What If I’m Broken’, with each chapter inspired by one of Lukeman’s songs.

A consummate live performer, Jack L’s style is perfectly suited to a historic venue such as the Everyman Palace offering Cork fans a perfect opportunity to welcome in the New Year.

Tickets to the show, priced at €30, are available from the venue on 021 4501673 or at www. everymanpalace.com.
