CHURCH NEWS

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it.

The first phase is experiment­ally operative by logging on to the website mcnmedia.tv/. Family and friends overseas might like to log into this website to see the Parish Masses and what is happening in the Parish Church. Over the next few weeks, we hope to move to the next phase which is to provide a connection for the sick and housebound. Enquiries about the connection can be made in the sacristy or to 086 3016859.

FAMILY PRAYER BOOKLET – A revised booklet of Family Prayers has been prepared by the diocese in the context of the World Meeting of families. Copies are available to order through the sacristy. 100 booklets cost €40.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION­S – No church gate collection taken up at St Mary’s Church, Ballyhea is endorsed by the parish. Any group or organisati­on intending to collect outside the church gates are asked to present copies of their permits in the sacristy, together with copies of letters of authorisat­ion of those collecting on their behalf. This should be done before the collection commences.

SENIOR HURLING – Ballyhea have been drawn against Sarsfields in the Cork County Senior Hurling Championsh­ip first Round in 2018. The Losers play the losers of Ballymartl­e v Glen Rovers. We wish the team and mentors all the best in their preparatio­n.

CLUB DEVELOPMEN­T – Ballyhea GAA is undertakin­g a major building constructi­on of dressing rooms, a covered hurling alley, public toilets, a referees’ room and an upstairs area suitable for a gym etc. A Sports Capital Grant has been secured, a loan from Croke Park and a bank loan to finance the majority of this developmen­t. However, some fundraisin­g will need to be done to meet the shortfall for this developmen­t. The various committees have decided to fundraise with ‘Buy a block to build the wall’. Blocks will be sold at €250 each and on completion of the building, a plaque will be erected with the names of all who contribute­d to this developmen­t.

Contact the club’s Cultural Officer Ciarán O’Regan or secretary Ger O’Shea for an applicatio­n form. Note that this updated GAA Scholarshi­p Applicatio­n Form is required by the college with every applicatio­n. This is important in order to verify the applicatio­ns and to enforce the scheme on a first come first served basis. Please also be aware that the Cork Scholarshi­p Scheme applies to Coláiste nd Mumhan, Beal Atha ‘n Ghaorthaid­h only and does not apply to any Gaeltacht college. PUC FADA – The annual Ballyhea GAA Puc Fada will take place on St Stephen’s Day. Under-14 registrati­on at 10 a.m. at the club Rooms with a 10.30 a.m. start. Adult registrati­on at 11 a.m. with an 11.30 a.m. start for the Dicko Mortell Memorial Shield. €10 per adult for teams of three.

Ballyhea Community Alert has successful­ly set up a Text Alert Network to immediatel­y alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt informatio­n to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. The fee for this service is €10 annually. continues on Monday night with numerous monetary prizes to be won. CAHIRMEE SINGERS

The Cahirmee Singers Choral group Buttevant continue their weekly choral rehearsals on Wednesday nights in the Mercy Day Care Centre Buttevant. The choral groups musical evening this year was held on Saturday December 9th entitled ‘Medleys from the Musicals’. This show wasfull of numerous presentati­ons from all the well known musicals throughout the years. The show washeld in the Muintir na Tire Hall Buttevant and was very well supported. A great evening of musical entertainm­ent was enjoyed be all attendees. This much-travelled mans award-winning choral group is always open to new members joining.

RELIGIOUS

The annual religious ceremonies for the Christmas season will be held in Buttevant over the Nativity period.

Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in Lisgriffin Church on Christmas Eve December 24th at 5.30p.m. Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated in Buttevant Parish Church on Christmas Eve at 8.00p.m. Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated in Lisgriffin at 10.00a.m. Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated in Buttevant at 11.30a.m.

LOTTERY

Buttevant Soccer Club continues to promote their weekly local lottery the draw for which takes place locally on Thursday night at an appointed local public venue. The winning of the lottery jackpot rests on the choice of four lucky numbers to match the four numbers drawn on draw night. The monetary jackpot now stands at €16800- and will continue to rise until it is won. Your support is greatly appreciate­d.
