PUT your New Year resolution to good use in support of the Cullen and District Special Needs Association, which is now seeking volunteers across the Duhallow region and beyond to burn up the calories from its annual weigh-in.

The 2018 weekly weigh-in commences on Monday night, January 8 at 8pm in Cullen Community Centre with jiving classes and dancing an added attraction to get into a fit routine.

Secretary Moira O’Keeffe said the popular association are seeking your support and look forward to meeting new and old friends.

“We greatly appreciate the faithful support and generosity of so many over the years, thus contributing hugely to the welfare and well being of those with special needs. Voluntary fundraising is hugely important to enable centres achieve high standards and maintain services for those with special needs, who are most vulnerable in our society”, she said.

The 2018 programme commences in Cullen Community Centre and will conclude on Monday, March 12. Dr Pat Casey will again be in attendance with his weighing scales, and a feature this year will be jiving classes conducted by Aisling and Leanne beginning on Monday, January 15.

On the closing night the Cullen association will again be inviting representatives of the various centres, where friends are educated.

“Over recent years we’ve made similar presentations; they all replied and expressed their sincere gratitude and deepest appreciation for this financial boost, paying tribute to the generosity of the Cullen association and their many supporters who support the various fundraising projects,” said Moira. “All agreed that this year more than ever their needs are greater than ever and voluntary fundraising is hugely important.”

Those involved acknowledge that the centres would not be in a position to deliver the range and quality of services without the goodwill and support of local communities. The Cullen association are delighted that fundraising events continue to flourish, and are happy to report a very successful harvest, threshing and vintage afternoon in addition to generous donations.

“We are indebted to the many people who give so generously of their time, their talents, their services and their resources over the years to assist in our fund-raising efforts; all who sponsor and help to make the vintage afternoon such a great success, all who support our weigh-in, and the media who promote our events”, said Moira.

“We invite patrons to support the weigh in and jive your weight off. Put on the dancing shoes and try a new way of getting active to boost weight loss, improve fitness and energy levels, as well as toning up”, she said.
