Panto with Cinderella at the Riverside Park

- BILL BROWNE

WHILE January will see the panto season draw to a close in most theatres around Cork, there will still be one place where you can enjoy all the fun and frolics of this most unique form of entertainment.

The Lee Valley Enterprise Board will be doing its bit to banish those January blues with its production of the perennial panto favourite ‘Cinderella’.

The show will run at the Riverside Park Hotel on January 5 at 7.30pm, January 2 at 2.30pm & 7.30pm and the following afternoon at 2.30pm.

The time honoured tale will feature Kelly Ann Healy as the eponymous heroine who aided by the magical fairy queen played by Lorraine Casey.

Cinderella’s ‘Prince Charming’ will be played by Donal Ó Ceallaigh, his cousin Dandini by Gerard Collins and with seasoned panto performer Pat Kelleher taking the role of The King.

Comedy will be provided in abundance by the usual suspects with Dame Daisy being played by Jim Leah, the ugly sisters Roseviolet and Sweetpea by Padraig O’Driscoll and Kevin Moynihan and Darragh Murphy as Buttons.

The local postman and nosey gossip played by David Leahy also contributes to the fun, while Con Foley, the palace guard has the task of making sure the slipper fits the right foot while keeping order at the Grand Ball.

Aidan Vaughan of the Lee Valley Enterprise Board said the panto promises to be great fun with the best of comedy to suit all ages.

“As always audiences will once again enjoy the muchloved chorus of tiny tots who will warm the hearts of the audience with their innocent smiles and beautiful songs. Dancing and singing to the music of the great Elvis are the teenage chorus with soloists, Martin McCarthy, Julie Dunne and Con Foley,” said Aidan.

“Any profits from the production will go back into local projects so why not come along, enjoy the fun and help raise funds for ongoing initiatives within the community.”

Tickets priced at €15 for adults and €10 for children are available from the box office at The Square in Macroom or 087 166 3395.
