Students from Holy Family School at St. Joseph’s Foundation graduate in a wonderful ceremony at Holy Cross Church and the celebration afterwards at the Charleville Park Hotel.
The 2017 Charleville Agricultural Show was another outstanding success thanks to the beautiful summer weather and the excellent fare on view at the Show. Cllr. Ian Doyle was elected Deputy-Mayor of Cork County at a Cork County Council meeting in County Hall.

In the Cathy O’Shaughnessy Hope Fund is launched in memory of the local lady whose untimely death occurred in 2015. Her widower, Eddy, daughters Gemma, Amy and son Colin decided on the Hope Foundation as the charity to assist in her name, and their fund was launched at Geary’s Bar Charleville.
Breton lady Maela Merrer presented a beautiful timber bench to Charleville Twinning Association as a gift from twin towns Plouaret and Le Vieux Marche. Brian Miller, chairman of the local Association accepted the gift, and thanked the merrer family for their wonderful gesture. He said that the bench will be used in Charleville Library and will be a welcome addition to the learning tools in the library.
Milford’s Fr. Padraig Keogh celebrates the Golden Jubilee of his ordination with a function in the local community hall.
The visit of the soccer legends to Charleville for the opening of Tim Fitzgerald Park is launched. Paul McGrath, who will perform the official opening and former international and TV pundit Ronnie Whelan will also be there. Many more names will be added and announced at a later date.
The Real McCoy comedy is staged at the Schoolyard Theatre.
JULY
sees the official opening by Paul McGrath of the Tim Fitzgerald Park at Moatville for Charleville Soccer Club. Many former International soccer players took to the field to play a local selection, followed by a gala dinner at the Charleville Park Hotel.
The 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Golden Vale Food Products Ltd Factory is commemorated in a photographic exhibition, organised by Charleville Heritage Society, at the Provincial Heritage Centre at the Convent
AUGUST
of Mercy, Main Street, Charleville. Over three hundred people view the exhibition, which also marked Heritage Week in Charleville.
The hard work of Charleville Tidy Towns Committee members during the year paid off handsomely when they received an extra 11 marks in this year’s national competition, the highest number awarded to any town in county Cork.

saw the annual Festival of History organised by Charleville Heritage Society which had as its theme Eigse Sean Clarach MacDomhnaill, the 17th century Jacobite poet. The event was opened by Kerry Poet Gabriel Fitzmaurice and was on over the weekend 7th to 10th September. Among the guests are a party from Croesgoch Heritage Society, who finalised their twinning arrangement with Charleville Heritage Society ...
SEPTEMBER
William Lyons performs his one man show ‘A Night in November’ during the weekend.
The schools colouring competition winners are announced at Charleville Librar. Cllr Ian Doyle reports that funding has been secured from Fermoy Municipal District for the resurfacing of the walkway in the Town Park and improvements to the children’s play area.
Charleville CBS Boys feted at Charleville Golf Club for their achievement with their Ditch Your Carbon Cup Print’ project. Local man Jim Foley, the long serving musical director of St. Patrick’s Brass and Reed Band, received a special presentation from Charleville Heritage Society.
There is a record entry for the annual Charleville Half-Marathon organised by the Charleville based North Cork Athletic Club.
In Charleville Chamber hosted a Breakfast Meeting to discuss the challenges that will be posed for Charleville by the M20 Motorway when it is built and the town is bypassed. Charleville CBS boys placed third in the world at the SAGE Schools Competition in Odessa in the Ukraine. Geary’s Bar Charleville recognised at the Irish Pub Awards 2017.
Vincent’s Shop hold a Customer Appreciation Day at their Keating’s Lane shop. The Charleville Park Hotel hold a Coffee Morning for Marymount Hospice. Charleville Heritage Society participate in the Cork Past Exhibition in Cork City Hall along with many other exhibits from across Cork City and County.
An Open Evening at St. Mary’s Secondary School highlights the various subjects on the curriculum for students. Charleville gears up for the proposed M20 Motorway to ensure the route will work for the benefit of the town and its people and to maximise the full potential of the new roadway and to embrace the opportunities that this will bring. The drive is being led by Charleville Chamber.
Charleville Flower Club learn about autumn colours in a talk by D. J. Murphy of Bandon. The month brings a bombshell from the Central Bank of Ireland of Ireland who place the local Credit Union branch in liquidation and closes down the branch office leaving the staff of 16 jobless ... Local Councillor Ian Doyle frantically making efforts to save the branch but all to no avail as the CBI persists and the town is left

without a credit union branch.
A gathering of the Herlihy family of Kilabraher, Newtown and Charleville meet their American cousins from Minnesota in the USA in a the first time family reunion at the Charleville Park Hotel. Charleville Tidy Towns remember the late Tommy Kavanagh by erecting a plaque to his memory, which is unveiled by his widow Eileen at the water feature at the northern entrance to the town.

In Charleville Ladies Club looks after the social needs of the women in the town rivalling the Men’s Shed, which does the same for the men of the town and area. Croabh An Ráth Comhaltas branch elects new officers at their annual general meeting.
Mallow Credit Union announce the opening of their branch in Charleville following their getting approval from the Central Bank of Ireland. Bank of Ireland launch the Charleville Enterprise Town to showcase the industries, clubs and organisations in Charleville. It is scheduled for later on in November.
Cork County Older Peoples Council hold an event at the Charleville Park Hotel. A soccer team representing O’Connell’s Bar wins the annual Garda Community Soccer Tournament.

Charleville Chamber get the green light for the installation of CCTV security cameras from Cork County Council after a long delay. The cameras will be erected in January at various locations in the town and will be a great help in the protection of local people and the prevention of crime and the prevention of public order offences.
Planning permission is lodged with Cork County Council by Dublin company Corajio ULC to develop the former John Lane, Cork owned Emdown Bedding factory and other buildings adjacent to Baker’s Land and Broad Street.
The Liam O’Connor Show aids the Liskennett Farm Equine Centre for autism with his music show, while former GAA Commentator Miceal Ó Muircheartaigh is the MC for the evening.
