Kilbrin undone in JBFC final

-

KILBRIN had hopes of taking hold of the County JBFC one more time yet there was no happy ending after faltering to a 14-man Argideen Rangers in a highly entertaining Final. In doing so, the Timoleague outfit overcame adversary, losing a key player on the stroke of half time. Though holding a two point interval advantage, Argideen hit a sticky patch during the third quarter, the impetus shifted to Kilbrin and two goals helped secure a narrow grip with little more than 10 minutes remaining. However, Argideen held the required endurance and resilience to work their way through a testing spell, negotiating a path through the difficulties presented and 1-4 without reply confirmed the destination of the silverware on returning to the West Cork base for the fourth occasion.

ROBERT Emmets came a cropper to a slicker Kilshannig as the latter savoured the taste of county honours after emerging best after an entertaining County U-21 B Football Championship Final. At key stages, the Avondhu side looked to be the more determined and resolute side and having built up a single goal advantage at the break, they countered the best intentions of the Newmarket and Lismire combination by a two goal margin.

THERE was no happy ending for a battling St Johns on falling short to Lough Rovers in an exciting County Junior C Football Championship Final. On doing so, Rovers from the Bandon Road in Cork City ended a 75-year drought to sample county accolades thanks to performing with confidence, class and character. Ultimately, a more balanced Lough Rovers fully deserved victory on operating the more effective and cohesive football together with enjoying a greater share of possession. St Johns battled hard in search of their first ever trophy yet Rovers cuteness typified by their ability to craft a pair of goals at defining times divided the teams.

NEWMARKET’S campaign in the County Premier IFC ran out of road on a defeat to St Michaels in a highly entertaining semi-final. Having trailing at the break, St Michaels upped the tempo on the restart, two goals in quick succession acted as a spur. Indeed, Newmarket found it difficult to come to terms with a power packed and energetic performance of an opposition who made most of their second half dominance to secure a ticket to a decider against eventual winners Mallow.

A LOOK at the county SFC saw debutants Kiskeam and Duhallow hold their own with a number of creditable wins until both relented to mighty Nemo Rangers who later progressed to land both county and Munster honours.

With Kanturk landing the spoils at IFC, fellow Duhallow sides Ballydesmond, Millstreet and Rockchapel failed to deliver consistent showings to make the semi-final stages.
