Harbour Players delve into testing arena of family life for 22nd show
THE Ballyclough based Harbour Players return to the stage next week with their annual drama, ‘Same Old Moon’, which is sure to delight enthusiasts.
It’s the Harbour Players’ 22nd presentation with Newmarket’s Eileen Fitzgerald returning after eight years to produce this year with the curtains rising on Friday, January 12.
This very funny and moving play follows the life of aspiring writer Brenda Barnes (played by Liz Gavin), from childhood to her early forties. Through her eyes is witnessed her eccentric and fiery Irish family, her put-upon and sometimes hot-tempered mum (Liz Higgins), and many other characters that have influenced her life.
“It is a charming but not uncritical look at family – a play littered with comedy and poignancy throughout, and promises to entertain,” said Eileen Fitzgerald.
“To work with the Ballyclough group is a pleasure and it’s great to see a mix of old and new faces in the cast, that’s the lifeblood for any drama group such as the Harbour Players to succeed.
“Full of humour, this play is a departure from the normal style of play but with clever story telling it’s easy to follow events as they unfold. Wonderful characters emerge, and the audience is sure to love some and dislike others”, she said.
If the rehearsals are anything to go by then the Harbour Players’ latest production will be a huge hit with North Cork audiences.
Cast members include Liz Gavin, Liz Higgins, Marianne Cronin, Conor Hannon, Deirdre Fitzgerald, Chris Mills, Danny O’Brien, Kevin Deady, Graham Kerly, Pat Keating, Jill Kerly, Sylvia Keating, Suzanne Cope, Davy Aherne and Sean Hayes.
‘Same Old Moon’ runs from January 12-14 in addition to shows on January 19/20 at Ballyclough Community Centre with curtains up nightly at 8pm.
