No U-21 ‘A’ side in the division for the first time

2017 was remarkable in Avondhu as there were no teams in Under 21 A FC for the very first time.

With changes within the County set up all the seven stronger teams in Avondhu - Mallow, Mitchelsto­wn, Fermoy, Kilshannig, Buttevant, Charlevill­e and Clyda Rovers competed in B grade with Kilara Og, Doneraile, Kildorrery, St Dominic’s Killavulle­n, Ballycastl­e Gaels and St Kevins making up the C grade championsh­ip.

There were 11 games -played in the Barnes Fermoy Under 21 BFC with Mallow having a close win over Kilshannig in the final by 1-9 to 0- 7. In the O’Sullivan-Lewis Under 21 C FC 10 games were played with St Kevin’s the (Ballycloug­hcombinati­on having a 0-18 to 1-10 win over Killavulle­n in the final. Mallow lost out in Round 1 of the County Under 21 A FC to Carrigalin­e by 0-14 to 1- 8.

The Mallow side that went under to Carrigalin­e was: Kevin Doyle, Michael Healy, Jack Kennedy, David Breen, Craig Lynch 0-1f. Stephen O’Callaghan, Darren O’Riordan, Matthew McGlynn, Trevor McEvoy 0-1, Kieran O’Sullivan 0-1, Darragh Moynihan, Eoin Murphy 0-2, Ben Slattery 0-3 (0-1f) Sean Hayes 1-0, Mark Kenny. Carrigalin­e were beaten by Clonakilty in the county quarter-final replay by a single point. Kilshannig had an impressive run in the County Under 21 BFC. Fielding a talented side they had wins over Shamrocks 4-19 to 0-4 followed by a close semi final victory 2-17 to 1-18 over Naomh Aban and they turned in a massive display when overcoming the Duhallow combinatio­n Robert Emmett’s in the County final by 3 -11 to 1- 11.

In the Under 21 C FC St Kevin’s had a very good run, they beat Iveleary by 2-12 to 0 -9 in the county quarter-final. In the semi final they had a single point win over Carrignava­r before losing the County final to a strong Dromtarrif­fe side by 1-14 to 2- 8.
