Buttevant knocked out by champs

IN the County JBFC there were four teams from Avondhu involved Araglin, Deel Rovers, Grange and Shanballym­ore. Deel Rovers had a first round win over Goleen by 2-10 to 1-10.

They then received a bye to the quarter final where they lost out to Kilbrin 4-12 to 1-12. Shanballym­ore and Grange clashed in Round 1 with Shanballym­ore being easy victors by 0-15 to 0- 7. Cobh beat Araglin 3- 11 to 0-8 also in Round 1.

In Round 2 Goleen accounted for Araglin 1-10 to 1- 7 in the knock-out stages. Grange had a good win over Rathpeacon 2-13 to 0-6. Grange followed with a close win over Randal Og 0-8 to 0- 6 to clinch a place in the quarter-finals.

Shanballym­ore also reached the County quarter final but lost with a late Goleen burst by 4-5 to 0-16 after Shanbally had led comfortabl­y for long periods. Grange defeated Cobh in the quarter-final by 3-8 to 1-12, but the Avondhu side lost out to Kilbrin in the County semi-final by 2-11 to 1- 5.

In the County JCFC there was just one team from Avondhu -Abbey Rovers (Castletown­roche). The Rovers had their first round against Ballypheha­ne where they had a narrow win by 4-10 to 2-14. In the County quarter final Abbey Rovers lost heavily to St John’s by 2-10 to 0-1.

In the Fermoy Credit Union JAFC Buttevant showed great form from the start of the season.

They secured full points in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy League and won the title on a 3 -5 to 0 -5 win over Killavulle­n.

In the JAFC there were 17 games played. Buttevant and Kilworth contested the final with both seeking their first ever JAFC success. Buttevant were deserving winners by 2-13 to 1-9 at Killavulle­n.

Both finalists contested the County JAFC Kilworth faced a strong Carbery side in Kilmacabea and lost out in a low scoring Round 1 game by 1-7 to 0- 4.

The Kilworth team was: Patrick O’Brien, Austin O’Hara, Mark O’Connor, Brian Tobin, Liam Whelan 0-1, David Twomey, Ciaran Gowen, Eoin McGrathy, James McCarthy, Thomas Twomey 0-2f. Paddy Moakley 0-1, Jamie Sheehan, Kieran Lane, George Heskin, Brian Sheehan. Subs : Will Condon for Jamie Sheehan (inj) Henry Allen for James McCarthy (inj) Daniel O’Regan for Mark O’Connor, Jason Twomey for Thomas Twomey, Joe Aherne for Kieran Lane.

Buttevant met Glenbower Rovers in their Round 1 County game. The Avondhu champions emerged winners by 3- 11 to 2- 7. Buttevant were then through to the County quarter final.

They came up against Knocknagre­e in Kilbrin and were well beaten by the Duhallow side by 2-19 to 1-10.

The Buttevant lineout was as follows: Ronan Donovan, Sean Flynn, Tadhg O’Sullivan Jack O’Riordan, John Buckley, Miceal Broe, David Walsh, Anthony O’Neill, Tadhg Healy, John O’Neill 0-1, Seamus Madigan 0-1f. J D Murphy 0-1, Denis O’Connell 0-4f. Kevin O’Keeffe 0-1, Ryan Fowley 1-2. Knocknagre­e went on to win the County and Munster titles.
