No quarter-final berth for Avondhu in County SFC

IN the County SFC a total of 26 teams, 18 clubs, 6 Divisional sides and two Third Level Colleges competed.

In all there were 50 games including two replays. Avondhu Senior side and Clyda Rovers represente­d the Northern Division. Avondhu were first into the action in April when they met 2016 County Premier winners Kiskeam.

Avondhu ran out very easy winners by 3-20 to 2-11. In late April Clyda Rovers met Douglas in Blarney with the game going to extra time. In extra time Douglas emerged winners by a single point 1-16 to 2-12.

Avondhu were then in Round 2A where they faced UCC. A strong College side emerged easy winners by 3-18 to 1-12. The game was played in Mourneabbe­y. At half time UCC led 2-11 to 0-5.

Clyda Rovers were involved in another extra time game with O’Donovan Rossa in Round 2B. Clyda advanced by a two point margin 0-12 to 0-10 at Inchigeela.

Avondhu’s next outing was in Round 3 where they met I-llen Rovers. The overall balance of Avondhu proved decisive as they had nine points to spare on a 2-12 to 0-9 scoreline.

Both Avondhu and Clyda Rovers were involved in Round 4 games the same week end in September.

wValley Rovers had a surprise one point win over Avondhu 0-18 to 1-14 while UCC proved too good for Clyda winning by 1-15 to 1-11.

This meant that both senior football sides were out of competitio­n before the county quarter finals.
