Sun shines on Macroom Ploughing... finally!

MACROOM Ploughing Association held their annual Ploughing Match last Sunday on the lands of Angela Leonard Teergay. Having had many disappointing matches – weather wise – over the last few years, the committee couldn’t help but feel a buzz last Sunday, with an excellent site complete with parking facilities, and the sun shining as the competitors, 58 in total, arrived on the site.

It was all hands on deck as the committee set about their duties, ably assisted by volunteers, who gave up their well earned day off to assist at parking and stewarding. Proceedings got underway at midday and spectators poured on to the site for the rest of the afternoon.

Competitors and their helpers were all treated to dinner in Coolcower House, compliments of Macroom Ploughing, and later the results were announced.

The club would like to thank the landowner Angela Leonard, and the Buckley Family for all their assistance and co operation on the day. They would also like to thank all those helped on the day, including the Gardaí, who all helped to make it a great success story.

The club has also said a big thank you to all their sponsors, without whom there would not be a successful Ploughing Group in Macroom, and to all the spectators who give so generously at the gate.

They have also thanked Coolcower House for their facilities and good food and photographers, especially Sean McSweeney, who readily makes himself available at all times to the Ploughing, and to Richard Cotter, who took some excellent photos with his drone.

Last but not least they would like to thank all the young male and female competitors who compete in the local classes as this is a big factor in keeping the organisation ticking over.
