-

Tom Creedon Cup, 1sT round: Macroom v Naomh Abán in Ballyvourney. Because of water-logged pitches in Macroom, this tie took place in Ballyvourney at 12 noon on Sunday. Up 0-2 to 0-1, Macroom conceded a goal in the 13th minute, having yielded possession on their 45 metre line.

Naomh Abán dominated after that and scored the last three points of the half, leading 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. Macroom started the second half very well and quickly scored three points. When Tony Dineen pointed to level the match in the 45th minute, Macroom seemed to be in a good position. However, Naomh Abán finished the stronger, and finally won by 1-14 to 0-13.

Macroom will rue missed goal chances in both halves and the concession of the goal. Goalkeeper Brendan O’Connell played well on his return, and Paul O’Farrell was solid at full-back.

Fintan Goold was excellent at centre back and midfield, and scored three second-half points. Tony Dineen was prominent throughout and scored a point.

Pa Lucey was top scorer with 0-4; other to score were David Horgan and David Goold 0-2 each and Olan Murphy a point.

The match was there for the taking, but in mitigation, several players were absent and it is early in the season.
