Pupils and teachers trip the light fantastic in Coachford
A GREAT night of dancing and entertainment was laid on by the students of Coachford College on Friday night.
The second ever dancing competition was tremendous fun. Well done to the transition year students who put the show together.
The dancers were brilliant and it was easy to see how much practice and effort they put in to get ready for their dances. The Sports Hall was transformed into a dance hall for the show, which included a mixture of pupils. teachers and parents strutting their stuff.
Congratulations to Ms Heaphy, Mr Lotty and Mr Fitzpatrick who took on the role of judges for the night. They were kind and encouraging to the young dancers and directed their hilarious criticism towards their colleagues. Miss Hourihan, as usual, was an excellent MC and kept the show moving at a great pace.
The winners, Jack O’Mahony, Brian Dineen, Gavin Crean and Dylan Brennan with assistance from Julie Tarrant and Julie Crowley, were outstanding. Superbly coached by Jenny Burke, they stole the show with their energetic and excellently executed dance routines. It left everyone in the audience breathless and they fully deserved the standing ovation and the win.
In second place was Caroline Barrett and Leah Cooney with their great dance performance to the Dirty Dancing classic ‘ The time of my Life’. In third place, four first years – Molly Mangan, Courtney O’Connell, Anna O’ Leary and Leah Murphy – took the honours with a great routine which was full of energy and perfect coordination.
This fundraising show in aid of Marymount Hospice was a great night out. The enthusiastic involvement of the teaching staff made it all the more special and once again showed the wonderful partnership and mutual respect that exists between the staff, parents and pupils at Coachford College.
