Tom Creedon hopes to make inroads on weather

-

DEFENDING holders Newmarket begin the defence of the Tom Creedon Cup on a meeting against Nemo Rangers in an attractive round 1 clash on this Saturday. Adverse weather hit previous attempts to play the fixture where Newmarket attempt to repeat their 2017 triumph, on winning their title, Newmarket rallied impressively to better defending holders Beál Athan Ghaorthaidh in a thrilling contest.

In a repeat meeting to the previous season’s decider, even the most ardent of Newmarket supporters would had put their money on the Gaeltacht side to retain their crown on leading 0-9 to 0-2 at the break. And though Newmarket mounted a comeback to cut the leeway to two points upon the restart, Beál Ath’n Ghaorthaidh looked well poised on regaining their 7 point advantage at the three quarter stage.

Again Newmarket responded with commendable courage and quite a degree of efficiency to shoot 2-7 without reply during the closing quarter.

The competition is also featured on this Friday night, Ballydesmond welcome Béal Ath’n Ghaorthaidh for a first round encounter.
