Huge programme of adult and schools handball this week

A busy week ahead in handball as 40x20 Munster adult championsh­ip gains momentum during the coming week. This weekend the Second Level Colleges championsh­ip will also decided at Cork venues.

In Munster championsh­ip the action starts for Cork players on Friday evening with Ballydesmo­nd player Denis Quinn making the trip to Broadford where he faces Clare player Richard Woods in a Masters A Singles semi-final. On Saturday afternoon at Newmarket-on-Fergus Conna player Pat Clancy faces Clare Michael Hogan in Golden Masters B Singles quarter final.

On Sunday afternoon at Glenbeigh Conna player Kieran Noonan will play Kerry Brian McEvoy in Silver Masters B Singles quarter final. On Monday evening at Galbally 7.30 start a double header will be decided with Cork players involved in both games, proceeding­s will open with the clash of Enda Aherne, Boherbue, with Limerick’s John Paul O’Connor in Masters B Singles quarter final, which will be followed by the meeting of Boherbue player Anthony Lucey with Limerick’s John Keyes in Over 35B Singles quarter final. Also on Monday evening at Ballydesmo­nd in Silver Masters B Singles quarter final Ballydesmo­nd player Philip O’Carroll faces Limerick’s Mike O’Connor.

On Tuesday evening Cork players will be dually involved at Boherbue local clubman Danny Lenihan has home venue when he plays Limericks Denis McCarthy in Golden Masters B Singles quarter final. Also on Tuesday evening at Tipperary venue Kilcoleman Ballydesmo­nd players faces Tony O Flaherty,Tipperary in Emerald Masters A Singles.

On Wednesday evening the spotlight switches to Dungarvan and Broadford. At Dungarvan 7.30 start Mallow player Tagdh O’Neill plays Waterford’s David Walsh in an Intermedia­te Singles quarter final.

Broadford venue host a double header on Wednesday commencing at 7.30 which features semi-finals of Minor and Under 21 Singles.Minor Singles will open the programme with Mallow player Conor Walsh who had a good win over Kerry’s Daire Keane in Ballymacel­ligott last Monday evening, taking on Mark Rodgers, Clare. That will be followed by Under-21 Singles in which David Walsh, Mallow, plays Tipperary’s Jerome Cahill with both games promising to be close affairs. The weekend will be a busy one at Liscarroll and Mallow venues as they host Second Level Colleges Munster Championsh­ip. On Friday evening girls games go ahead at Liscarroll the grades involved being First Year, Junior and Senior Singles & Doubles.

On Saturday it promises to be a full day at both Mallow and Liscarroll venues as the Boys Colleges are decided. In Boys the grades involved are First Year, Junior, Intermedia­te and Senior with Singles & Doubles.

Last weekend at Breaffy House and other Mayo venue’s She’s Ace Ladies weekend of Handball was played attracting a huge entry and some very exciting and skilful displays. Ballydesmo­nd’s Catriona Casey took the spoils in Ladies Open defeating Limerick’s Martina McMahon in the final. There was a good cork entry Cpnna’s Cliona Dunning was a member of the girls winning team while in ladies Nuala Dunning also Conna Club was ruynner-up in the Challenger grade.

On Saturday night Cork Handball Board will hold the Annual Presentati­on Function at Mallow GAA Complex, where the many successes of 2017 will honoured.
