Academy fall short to an on-song Glanmire

-

Glanmire Community College 0-16

GLANMIRE Community College were easy victors over Patrician Academy (Mallow) in the Munster Senior B HC quarter final Corn Tomas Mhic Choilm at Pairc Ui Chaoimh yesterday.

Dylan Walsh and Ben Graham had early points for the winners. Kieran Twomey pointed a free for Mallow. Glanmire gained supremacy in the half backline and midfield sectors.

Their forwards in regular supply all figured on the score-sheet. Ben Graham pointed a ‘ 65 in the 12th minute and followed with a long range free soon after. Graham added another free in the 19th minute that had the winners 0-5 to 0-1 clear.

Good play by Dan Hogan led to a Harry Wall point. Mallow’s second score came in the 26th minute when Jack Twomey pointed. Throughout the game Academy had many wides. At the break Glanmire Community College held a commanding lead 0-7 to 0-2.

For the second half Academy moved Kieran Twomey as an extra midfielder. It made little difference as Glanmire used the short passing to great effect. Academy keeper David Kearney saved well from Killian Murphy with the rebound going out for a ‘65 that Ben Graham converted.

Harry Wall put Dylan Walsh through for a point with Jack Twomey making a great run out of defence and he placed David Walsh whose attempt at goal from close range was deflected over by Donncha McCarthy. In the 40th minute good work by Colm O’Shea led to a fine point by David Walsh 0-10 to 0-4.

Both sides were reduced to fourteen players when a nasty incident led to red cards for Conor McMahon and John Kelleher. Glanmire lost their keeper through injury with Ben Graham taking over in goal.

The winners hit a purple patch landing five points without reply by Dylan Walsh (2) Daniel Allen, James O’Farrell, and Jack Leahy. Glanmire Community College will now face Mitchelstown CBS in the semi final on January 27.
