Kanturk is turning ‘Up For The Match’

CAN the last person leaving Kanturk please turn off the lights?

That will be the mantra over the weekend as Kanturk and Knocknagre­e are both vying for All Ireland glory and aim to bring home a slice of history for the region.

In Kanturk this Friday night, there will be a right little hooley when ‘Up For the Match’ takes place at 8pm sharp at the Edel Quinn Hall.

There is a star studded lineup which includes Sean Kelly MEP and former President of the GAA. He will be joined by Kerry footballer and All Ireland winning captain Ambrose O’Donovan and Newtown and Cork hurler and all Ireland winning captain Pat Mulcahy.

The All Ireland Mildford and All Ireland winning champion Ashling Thompson and dual star and All Ireland winner for football and hurling and former Cork trainer Jimmy Barry Murphy will also be on stage for the night of music, dance, chats and banter which is all guaranteed.

Some members of the 1969 hurling team which won the county and members of the 2002 team that won Duhallow will also attend.

The U14 Feile All Ireland winners will also entertain as well a host of other local musicians and dancers, and there will be a shot of comedy thrown in for good measure.

The night will be a celebratio­n of all things Kanturk and the match on Sunday against St Patrick’s Ballyragge­t will be the biggest day in the club’s history.

Up For the Match will set the tone for the weekend and get everyone in the mood for Sunday’s game.

Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for U16s and will be sold at the door. However, anyone attending should be in their seats at 8pm sharp for the nights entertainm­ent.
