What is a Recycling Centre?

-

A Recycling Centre is a modern, clean & fully staffed drive-in facility, licensed by the EPA. In these Centres, you can recycle a large range of household materials.

What is the entry charge?

When you visit a Recycling Centre, you will be charged a fee of €3 (note that the entry kiosk does not give change & only takes coins — it helps to come prepared!). Once inside, domestic customers may deposit most materials without any further charges.

If I only want to deliver Waste Electrical Equipment ( WEEE) or Batteries, do I have to pay the €3 entry fee?

If you are only presenting items of WEEE or Batteries and have no other items in your vehicle to deliver to site, then you do not have to pay the €3 fee. Please find a member of staff who will inspect your vehicle and make arrangements for you to enter the site.

What if I have bottles & cans only to recycle?

If you have only recyclable materials from your home, then just the entry fee of €3 applies.

Can I prepare for my visit to site?

Yes you can prepare for your visit by having the entry fee ready in coins (€0.50, €1.00 & €2.00 coins are accepted) to place into the entry kiosk. Separate your materials at home into the various types as this will reduce the amount of time taken on site.

How do I prepare my recyclables for acceptance at the Centre?

Ensure that materials are as clean & dry as possible. Flatten or squash boxes, cartons & cans. Remove plastic packaging from cardboard & paper. Make sure that you place the correct material in the correct container. If in doubt, please ask a member of staff.

What do I have to do on site?

Prior to leaving home, please separate your waste into the different recyclable materials, as this reduces the time taken on site to deposit your materials. It will also make the site more efficient and increases the recycling rate of the site. Deposit your waste into the relevant skips/bin/container. Ask Site Staff for assistance and if in doubt, please ask for advice as necessary.

Are there any materials not accepted at the Centre?

We cannot accept chemicals, asbestos, silage / bale wrap, pesticides, herbicides, foil lined plastics, needles/syringes.

Please contact us for further assistance either by logging onto the Council website at www.corkcoco.ie or call 021 4285518. IF we recycle efficiently, we greatly reduce our annual waste collection bill, thereby saving money, while simultaneously offering

untold benefits to the Planet, such as reducing pollution, preserving natural recourses like trees, and securing jobs in the green industry.

Those of us living in the North Cork area are spoiled for choice with three fantastic Recycling Centres right on our doorsteps, at Mallow, Kanturk, and Millstreet, and the obvious message here is ‘if you are not using these outstanding amenities, you are certainly missing out!’

Since the Millstreet Centre opened in 2005, it has been an invaluable asset to the local Community, and the Mallow and Kanturk Centres have received a fantastic response from the public since they first opened six years ago.

Entry fee only €3

The service can not be beaten on price at just €3 for entry, and it is user friendly, and a brilliant community amenity.

An incredibly wide range of materials is accepted, such as cardboard, newspapers and magazines, glass bottles and jars, flat glass, beverage and food cans, cooking oil, engine oil, plastic bottles, scrap metal, electrical items, paint, batteries, and textiles.

Green waste is also accepted, as well as timber, plasterboard, and construction waste.

In addition, refuse can be disposed of at the recycling centres with the cost for a standard bag starting at just €4, and of course the Saturday opening is an added bonus for the working public.

Bulky waste accepted

The acquisition of an EPA Licence in 2013 elevated the Mallow Centre to a whole new level, enabling it to accept almost any type of waste.

The demand locally for such a comprehensive service had been immense, with people previously having to travel to other centres in order to dispose of the waste the Mallow facility could not accept.

“This licence means we can accept all types of items in addition to non-recyclable household waste. We are delighted to be able to offer a full service to the public. It is great to see the centre being able to work to its full potential,” facility Manager George King said.

Conveniently located at Quartertown, close to Mallow town centre

Since it opened the number of people using the centre, conveniently located close to Mallow town centre, has gradually increased year on year.

The tonnage of waste it will deal with in the future is set to dramatically increase as more people become aware of the tremendous advantages it offers.

“We are in the wonderful position of being able to offer a full service to people calling to the centre, and everyone using the facility can rely on the assistance of our friendly helpful staff,” added George King.
