WITH the first shoots of spring now upon us, thoughts of music fans across Cork inevitably turn to the year ahead in anticipation of the county’s mouth-watering summer festival season.

The Macroom-based Townlands Carnival has come flying out of the traps already, unveiling a raft of headline acts set to grace the five stages in what is arguably one of the country’s most eclectic and colourful music and arts festivals.

Set in a purpose built village amid the grounds of the Rusheen Farm Estate in Macroom, the third annual Townlands Carnival will take place over three glorious, fun-filled days from Friday, July 22.

Despite being a relative newcomer to Cork’s vibrant summer festival calendar, Townlands has already gained a certain reputation for its mercurial music line-ups – mixing different genres into a giant melting pot that has appeal for music lovers of all tastes.

For proof of this you need look no further than the acts announced for this year’s bill, with carnival organisers set to yet again bring together an exciting and diverse range of home grown and international acts across a myriad of musical styles.

Top of the list will be hugely influential British musical pioneer Neil Barnes (aka Leftfield) who will play a DJ set of classic dance and electronic tunes.

He will be joined on the line-up by Irish festival favourites King Kong Company, The Eskies, The Latchikos, Worries Outernational, Rrradio Gee and Rub-a-Dub Hi-Fi.

Townlands will also be partnering with multi-award winning UK label Ghetto Funk who will be sending over some of their top names to the carnival including Stanton Warriors, JFB, WBBL and the Ghetto Funk All-Stars.

However, Townlands is not just about the music, with a plethora of attractions waiting to be discovered and explored around every corner, including arts and crafts exhibitions and showcases, multimedia instillations, comedy and spoken word stages, chill out and food areas and the The Big Bubbles Kids Area
