Savour a perfect night of music with Eddi Reader

- BILL BROWNE

POPULAR Scottish singer/songwriter Eddi Reader will return to Cork on Sunday, February 11, for a concert at the Ballymaloe Grainstore in Shanagarry.

Having first hit the limelight in the 1980s with the group Fairground Attraction whose toe-tapping single ‘Perfect’ taken from their top-selling album ‘First of a Million Kisses’, became an anthem for a generation, she went on to collaborate on many high-profile projects including touring with Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics and a stint with punk outfit Gang of Four.

However it has been Reader’s subsequent solo albums that have cemented her image as a powerful musical icon, with none other than Jools Holland describing her as one of his favourite singers of all time.

She has released nine solo albums (with a 10th one due out this year) and, over the past three decades, she has won a clutch of awards including three Brits. She has also been awarded an MBE for her outstanding contribution to the arts.

In 2016 she released a career-spanning ‘Best Of ’ compilation, including 30 of her most consistently beautiful, often deeply personal and intimate songs, giving listeners a generous insight into her wide ranging artistry and song-writing skills.

Her Ballymaloe concert will feature tracks from her back catalogue as well as new material from her forthcoming album.

Tickets for the concert from www.eventbrite. ie priced at €25 (plus booking fee).
