HAVING 30 yrs experience as an insurance broker, and despite the advent of internet and direct marketing by Insurers, I honestly feel that the need for people to get impartial, honest and expert advice about their insurance needs and requirements is as strong as ever.

Insurance is one of those things that everybody knows ‘a little bit about’ and, as the saying goes, ‘a little knowledge is a dangerous thing’.

We deal with people day in day out, checking the market for them and advising them on what policies would suit their requirements, be it for home, car, farm, shop or commercial insurances.

When you are buying insurance from an insurance company you are buying a promise, and that promise must be met in the event of an incident arising – your house goes on fire, a water mains bursts in your house, you crash your car ... the list is endless.

It is our job to try the market for our clients and potential clients, and find the policy that we feel best suits their needs, and for the most competitive price.

We will point out possible issues with some policies that clients may be unaware of – perhaps your house policy excludes flooding, or carries a very high excess, or your car insurance does not have a step back no claims bonus.

The need for people to get impartial, honest and expert advice about their insurance needs and requirements is as strong as ever

The way the market has gone, more and more companies - both insurance companies selling directly or aggregate brokers - will do exactly what the client asks when they ask for the cheapest price; they will give them the cheapest price.

Unfortunately, as people do find out every day, cheapest is not always the best, and that’s where your insurance broker comes in.
