LISCARROLL ATHLETIC CLUB

Isobel Kellegher and Whelan in the medals.

It was a good weekend for our athletes at two separate competiti9ons, one in Clarenbridge Co. Galway and at Nenagh Co.Tipperary. Isobel Kellegher was competing in an all-Ireland Cross Country Championship where she finished a very respectable sixth for an individual bronze medal. She was the first Cork girl home so she led the team to a silver medal position. This was a fantastic result for Isobel, who only took up athletics last year. Well done to her. Meanwhile, the Munster under-nine to under-12 Juvenile Indoor Championships were taking place at Nenagh. Five athletes took part at this level for was first time and while Clara Whelan under-nine was the only one to win a medal, everyone gave it their all.

Clara competed very well in the 300m, the long jump and the 60m sprint. She finished third in the long jump for a bronze medal. She along with Emma O’Connell had a fantastic run in the 60m Clara Sprint, as they both competed in separate heats qualified for the semi-finals and in turn qualified for the final which was the best eight out of 40 competitors but were unlucky in the final for a medal. Also in the sprint under-11 Shona Murphy showed that she will be one to be reckoned with later in the year.

On Saturday David Hanlon and Rachel Hanlon competed in the Long Jump and the High Jump respectively where they both performed very well. Registrations

When a note is published reminding people of the importance of being registered to compete or participate in club activities, some react by saying ‘They’re looking for money again’. On the face of it this is partially correct, but the main reason for constantly reminding people to register is insurance. As time goes by insurance protection is becoming more important than anything else in Sport. So please renew your registration or if you are a new member immediately. You are not a member of the club or AAI, therefore no insurance, till you do so.
