MOTORWAY

A decision on the Cork–Limerick motorway is imminent and could have profound effect on community and business life in Buttevant and the surrounding hinterland.

If the original plan is implemented, there will only be limited access provided to and from Buttevant town. There were several objections voiced, when the plan was first proposed, in what now seems almost in the very distant past.

The motorway could be the death knell for Buttevant as very few people and traffic are likely to leave the motorway to shop or spend some time in the town. Granted, there will be delivery traffic and the like into the town, but a great deal of work and development will have to be done and the town will have to be developed, both structurally, economically and industrially, to survive what will be a major bypass of the town, and its businesses and commercial life.

Be aware of what effect, the proposed motorway will have on Buttevant and its community, in general.
