JUVENILE – EIGHT WEEKS TRAINING IN CARRIGOON.

Ring, chairman of the club, congratula­ted all the players on their commitment, dedication and success during 2017. He thanked all the trainers, mentors and parents for their tireless efforts on promoting ladies’ football in the club and praised them for the hardwork they all put in on a weekly basis to ensure teams participat­ed and performed to the highest standards. The under-12s were first on the list and although they lost out in their North Cork final the determinat­ion and commitment they portrayed all year means there will be many titles to be achieved in the years to come. He also spoke highly of the under-13 team who were successful in winning the North Cork summer league which was decided in a replay. The under-14s were next up to be congratula­ted on their success on claiming the under-14 North Cork title for 2017. The under16s were equally praised for their success in the under-16 North Cork Final which was played in November. Although the minors lost out in their North Cork Final Pascal spoke highly of this team who having played 92 minutes in a county semi-final they lost out in the end by a single point. The junior team of 2017 were the stars of the night having successful­ly claimed a Junior County title for the first time in the clubs history.

Pascal went on to thank Kilshannig GAA Club for their continued support and acknowledg­ed their willingnes­s to provide pitches and indoor facilities at all times to ensure the growth and success of the club.

Special mention was given to the 20 members who participat­ed in Developmen­t panels at under-13, under-15 and under-17 levels with Cork LGFA the girls on the under-13 and under-15 panels participat­ed in the Munster Developmen­t Blitzes held in Mallow and the girls on the under-17 panel travelled to Dublin to participat­e in the all-Ireland Blitz. Pascal encouraged all the players in the club to avail of these opportunit­ies as a source of developing their skills and fitness at the highest level.

The club was represente­d on underage Cork panels in 2017 with Mairead O’Sullivan on the Cork under-16 panel who were crowned Munster Champions and were runners-up in the 2017 all-Ireland Final. Aisling Healy was a member of the Cork Minor panel who were also crowned Munster Champions and were also crowned all-Ireland Champions. This was another first for the club and Pascal congratula­ted both Mairead and Aisling on their success. He also congratula­ted Alana Gould, who is now a member of the Cork under-14 panel for 2018 and he wished Alana every success for the year ahead.

He also thanked Neta Casey and the fundraisin­g team for all their hard work during the year, organising Clothes Collection­s, Cake Sales, church gate collection­s and table quizzes without putting too much burden on parents and players. These events are vital for the successful running of the club. Eithne Foley was also thanked for her role as PRO for the club over the past number of years and Pascal expressed his appreciati­on to Eithne for all her promoting the club.

Aisling Healy was then introduced and spoke about past Victory Socials where she would be waiting to see who would be the guest of honour on the night to present the medals, and never in her wildest dreams believed she would ever be the one to have the honour to carry out this role. She spoke about her journey in ladies’ football since she first started playing at the age of six and the highs and lows of playing the sport, and the dream of playing for Cork. The commitment needed, training, fitness, dealing with injury, disappoint­ment and the end result, the joy of winning and becoming an all-Ireland champion was all part of the journey. She encouraged the players to follow their dreams whether it be at club or inter county level and to never give up on their dreams and ambitions.

Presentati­ons followed with the under-12s being introduced by Tricia Twohig along with trainers and mentors. Each of the girls received a Certificat­e to acknowledg­e their participat­ion during the year along with a booklet which consisted of a Players Profile of each player which they all completed during the year.

The under-13s and under14s were then introduced by Alan Gould along with trainers and mentors. These girls were successful in winning an under-13 North Cork summer league and the under-14 North Cork Final and Alan on behalf of all the trainers and mentors thanked them for all their hard work and commitment.

An award was then presented to Aisling Healy for her achievemen­ts with the Cork Minor ladies’ team who won a Munster title and an all-Ireland title for the third year in a row. Mairead O’Sullivan was also acknowledg­ed with an award for her role in the Cork under-16 squad who won a Munster title.

Eilis then introduced Gerard O’Donovan, chairman of Kilshannig GAA Gerard congratula­ted the ladies’ club on their success in 2017 and wished them well for 2018. He also spoke about the work involved in running a club and the support required to maintain pitches and facilities and welcomed more volunteers to assist in this major task. Gerard then made the presentati­ons to the Junior County Champions with their county medals and a commemorat­ive top, who were introduced by Eilis. Olivia O’Callaghan, captain of the team then spoke and thanked the trainers and mentors for their time and efforts all year in ensuing that the team succeeded when at times it looked like it was not going to happen, but it did back in October when the Kilshannig Junior ladies were crowned County Champions and they were then presented with their county medals and tops in recognitio­n of their role in claiming the county. Pascal once again thanked everyone for making the Victory Social the success that it was and wished all the teams every success in 2018 when Kilshannig Ladies will create another bit of history by being in existence for 21 years.

GLANTANE CHESS CLUB

Chess club for kids aged 11 to 14 in Kilshannig Community Centre on Thursday, February 15, 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. (and fortnightl­y thereafter). All levels welcome. €2. Bring a chess set if you have it.

Mallow GAA complex is a hive of activity on Tuesday nights when the juveniles from Killavulle­n club descend on their complex for indoor skills training. Tom Barry is the new chairman of the juvenile club, and the training groups range in age from six to 14. It is important that all players are registered in advance of attending the training and Rose Marie Taylor, as juvenile secretary coordinate­s the registrati­on process.

When the weather improves, we will all be aback again to our own patch in Killavulle­n, so the onus is on the club, to clean up the club environs after the winter and improve our facilities further for the forthcomin­g season.

MEMBERSHIP 2018.

Membership for all aspects of the club is now due for 2018, and the club would be gracious if persons will pay the appropriat­e fee to any committee member, or make arrangemen­t to pay directly, to the membership officer John O’Donovan, at 086 3934232.

Juvenile membership is collected through the juvenile registrati­on process and the players pay their membership to the team managers.

For the general public, the rates for 2018 are as follows: Full Adult membership – Working – €50. Student/OAP – €30.

We would dearly love if many of our brilliant supporters would join as members of the club. We always welcome new members also. Our strength is our collective.
