A night of pure magic with Seán and Peadar
TWO of the biggest names in Irish traditional music, Seán Ó Sé and Peadar Ó Riada, are set to come together on the same stage for an eagerly anticipated concert at the Eire Og GAA Club in Ovens on Saturday, evening.
Organised by the Kilmurry Historical and Archaeological Association (KHAA), proceeds from the concert will go towards the upkeep and running of the associations voluntary museum and community centre in Kilmurry.
Opened in 2016 by President Higgins, the permanent exhibition in the purpose built venue features a wealth of artefacts primarily relating to the local struggle for Irish Independence.
The association have a good track record when it comes to bringing together top class musicians under the banner of their cause, last year staging a successful concert featuring Seamus Begley, Jim Murray and Liam Ó Maonlaí.
Next Saturday’s concert promises to be an equally enjoyable affair, with Bantry native Seán Ó Sé and Cuil Adoha’s Peadar Ó Riada two absolute masters of their craft.
Both born in to Irish speaking families, the pair were immersed in traditional music, song and storytelling from a very early age, putting this experience to good use throughout their musical careers.
One of the most enduring talents of the traditional music scene in Cork, Ó Sé has enjoyed a career spanning decades, working alongside the late great Seán O’Riada (Peadar’s father) during his formative years. He has gone on to tour the globe and work alongside such luminaries as Donal Lunny and Dermot O’Brien.
Perhaps best know n for his work with the Cór Cúil Aodha choir, Peadar Ó Riada is also an accomplished pianist and composer of traditional music for film and dance and choral music.
The pair have worked together on numerous occasions, with their live performances very special occasions as they combine their talents and passion for singing and storytelling in one unmissable show.
