Great nights ahead at the Charleville Park Hotel

- BILL BROWNE

THE Charleville Park Hotel has unveiled an exciting programme of events set to grace the stage at the north Cork venue over the coming weeks.

On Sunday, February 25 The Fureys will bring their 40th anniversary tour to the hotel for what promises to be a magical night of music, song ad stories.

After four decades of recording and performing, the Fureys have managed to retain their position at the very pinnacle of the Irish traditional music scene.

Formed in 1978 the band is behind some of the most memorable Irish music ever recorded, with their songs stirring up a variety of emotions from tears and sadness to laughter and joy.

Inevitably, changes to the lineup have occurred over the years, with Finbar leaving the band in 1996 and Paul sadly passing away in 2002. However, George and Eddie have continued to delight audiences across the globe and release new albums almost annually.

The tour sees them perform a selection of their timeless classics including ‘I Will Love You’, ‘When You Were Sweet 16’, ‘The Green Fields of France’ and ‘Steal Away’ in addition to tracks from their latest CD ‘The Times they are A Changing’.

Memories of the late, great Joe Dolan will be rekindled on Friday. March 19 when the ‘ Remembering Joe - 10th Anniversary Tour’ will make a welcome stop at the hotel.

“No show like a Joe show’ was the catchphrase used to described Dolan’s energetic and enigmatic live performances, with this nostalgic show recreating the electric atmosphere and sheer joy of spending an evening in his company.

Featuring Ben Dolan, Adrian Dolan, Ray Dolan, Sandra Dolan, Karen Carroll, the original Joe Dolan Band, comedian Syl Fox and Greg Traynor, the show will have the audience singing and dancing along to the songs that made the celebrated Mullingar maestro a true legend of Irish showbusiness.

On Sunday, March 18 Johnny Brady will play the hotel with support from Mossie’s Country Roadshow in a fundraiser for the Donkey Sanctuary in Liscarroll.

March will draw to a close at the hotel with a concert by veteran Irish favourites Bagatelle, who will bring their ‘One For the Road’ tour to the venue on Saturday, March 31.

Having competed what was billed as their final tour in 2016, the band bowed to public demand and decided to go back on the road for one final swansong for a series of occasional gigs.

Bagatelle have earned themselves a worthy spot in the pantheon of Irish musical greats, with six number one singles and multi-platinum album sales.

Fans can expect a veritable greatest hits with perennial favourites including ‘Summer in Dublin’, ‘Second Violin’ and ‘Leeson Street Lady’.
