Brave volunteers get shaved and dyed in aid of charity
A phenomenal show of support has boosted Millstreet’s Celina O’Mahony, who is travelling to India this month to undertake volunteer work.
After a number of fund-raisers, more than €7,150 has been raised for the trip and Millstreet Community Hospital and Marymount Hospice.
Funds came from a table quiz and a fantastic atmosphere emerged at a ‘shave or dye’ event whilst private and business support has further enhanced the cause.
“I will be volunteering in India for ten weeks in total starting March on 26 in the Himalayas for four weeks, consisting of teaching, childcare and women empowerment, with two weeks being spent at a wildlife rescue and conservation area near New Delhi. That’s followed by another four weeks in Kochi (southern India) teaching, childcare and women empowerment,” said Celina.
Willing volunteers undertook waxing or dyed their hair on the night in the Bush Bar.
For good measure, Celina also shaved her hair, which added to the funding drive.
“A massive thank you to all who donated and have continued to support to this worthy cause,” said Celina. “It’s greatly appreciated.
“From the amount raised to date, it all allows a sum of €1,650 to be donated and split between Millstreet hospital and Marymount Hospice. If any further donations are received, they will also be donated to these two groups,” she added.
