National Tree Week starts this Sunday in Macroom

DETAILS of events as follows:

Sunday, March 4: Meet Ted Cook at the Castle Arch Macroom at 1pm. There will be a brief tour of the veteran trees that have survived in Macroom’s late 16th century parklands.

Thereafter a standard specimen of lime trees will be planted adjacent to the golf club car park to provide company for the OAP late 18th century lime tree.

Bring a packed lunch, a spade, gloves, secateurs. A total of twenty five native trees will be planted at the event.

Tuesday, March 6: Macroom Library 12noon. A talk by Ted Cook of the Macroom District Environmen­tal Group will take place titled ‘ The Call of The Forest’.

At 1pm everyone is welcome to gather at the golf club car park and continue planting native trees including the common Yew. Packed lunch again and bring extra for sharing.

Sunday, March 11: Meet Ted Cook at 1pm at St Gobnaits Wood car park entrance (Opposite The Mills Bar, Ballyvourn­ey).

A further planting of native trees that commenced three years ago will follow.

Bring a packed lunch a spade, secateurs and work gloves. After the planting an introducto­ry walk through St Gobnaits Wood which represents one of Irelands finest examples of Atlantic Oakwood.

All events are family orientated and everyone is most welcome to join in and there is no charge.
