Muireann is the toast of county Scór sinsear finals

The Cork county Scor Sinsear 2018 finals took place on Saturday last, 24th February at Eire Og club hall in Ovens and Kanturk tasted county success in the Amhranaioc­ht Aonair (Solo Singing) with Muireann Vaughan taking the title in a strong field of eleven participan­ts.

Muireann now represents Cork in the Munster Scor Sinsear finals on 10th March at Cappamore, County Limerick with a 6.30pm start.

Cork County Championsh­ips:

The opening rounds of the Cork county championsh­ips have been set by the Cork GAA board and Kanturk footballer­s enter the premier intermedia­te championsh­ip on Sunday 15th April against Nemo Rangers at Mallow at 6.15pm.

Kanturk will become the first Duhallow club side to play in the Cork Senior hurling championsh­ip when they meet near neighbours Newtownsha­ndrum on Saturday 28th April at Charlevill­e, 6.30pm.

Club AGM:

Kanturk GAA Club will hold its AGM on this Friday, 2nd March at the clubrooms at 8pm. With the impending weather, it must be noted that the meeting will only go ahead, weather permitting.

Fixtures and Results:

Kanturk U21 footballer­s suffered an defeat to Kiskeam on Saturday last 24th February in the Duhallow U21FC. Despite home advantage, Kanturk had to give second best to Kiskeam on a 0-08 to 1-13 score line.

It is expected Kanturk’s game in round two will be played over the coming weekend, but that is dependent in impending weather. The Duhallow GAA CCC were to meet on Tuesday night of this week to make arrangemen­ts for the round two games so, at time of writing it, was not known whom Kanturk would be facing in the back door.

Wolfe Tones U16 footballer­s get their Rebel Og Central Prem1 league under way with a home tie against Gabrial Rangers on Sunday next 4th March at 2.30pm.

Also on Sunday Kanturk’s opening foray into the Senior Hurling league takes place at Church Road with Blackrock having home advantage with a 2.30pm start.

Juvenile GAA Social:

The Kanturk Juvenile GAA social will take place on Friday 9th March at the Edel Quinn hall at 7.30pm.

The club will celebrate the the successes of 2017 including the U14 hurlers success in the All Ireland Feile na nGael last June.

Tickets are €15 and are available from club officers. Under 6 are free. A sit down meal followed by a Disco so a great night is assured.
