The Corkman

Strong second half for Lyre

-

Lyre 3-13 Croke Rovers 1-5

LYRE rollled up their sleeves during the second half to pull away from Croke Rovers in The Corkman Duhallow Under 21 C FC in Banteer. On doing so, Lyre made a bold statement, raising their game to levels that Rovers failed to reach during the second half.

Goals from Liam O’Brien and Luke Philpott gave Lyre a dream start to lay the foundation for a dominant spell. Rovers battled gamely through the enterprising play of Killian Buttimer and Evan O’Sullivan and were aided by a Daniel Murphy goal towards the end of the first half leaving the score at 2-3 to 1-2 at half-time.

Upon the resumption, Lyre reinforced their position through good play from Kieran Sexton and Barry Murphy. And they began to pull away with excellent points from O’Brien and Stephen Marshall followed by a second Philpott goal.

Credit to Croke Rovers for showing spirit with hard working displays from Ian O’Sullivan and Shane Curtin with points recorded by Evan Murphy and Ruairi O’Mahony. However, it wasn’t to be enough with Lyre running out comprehensive winners at the final whistle.
