Ballyhea hurlers beaten to league points by Glen Rovers

GLEN Rovers got the Red FM County SHL off to a winning start when they had six points to spare over Ballyhea at the Glen Field on Saturday evening. Exchanges were close early on with the sides level 0-1, 0-2, 0-3 and 0-4 each by the end of the first quarter.

Pat O’Callaghan edged Ballyhea ahead with a long range free with Kalin Cox working hard placing Eugene O’Leary who put Maurice O’Sullivan in for a point 0-6 to 0-4 Glen Rovers battled back well they had a point by Eoin Cronin with impressive Brian Moylan pointing a long range free 0-6 each. Good play by Moylan to David Dooling led to a fine point by Conor Dorris. David Noonan added a point for the winners. By half time Glen Rovers were 0-11 to 0-7 ahead.

On the restart Paul Virgo opened up a five-point lead. Pat O’Callaghan and Brian Moylan exchanged pointed frees with Eoin Cronin pointing under pressure as Glen Rovers moved 0-14 to 0-8 ahead Ballyhea battled to the end. Good play by Jamie Copps led to a well taken point by Jonathan McCarthy. Conor Dorris replied with a pointed free. Good play by Liam O’Connor led to a foul that Pat O’Callaghan who converted as Glen Rovers held a five point lead 0-15 to 0-10. In the 52nd minute Eugene O’Leary struck a long range point. Conor Dorris and Adam O’Donovan added a point each for Glen with Pat O’Callaghan and Adam Donovan exchanging a late point as Glen Rovers held out for a six point win.
