LOTTERY

The jackpot in Buttevant Soccer Club’s weekly local lottery draw currently stands at €17,800 and will continue to rise until it is won. The draw is held weekly on Thursday night at an appointed local public venue. Your support is greatly appreciated..

RUBBISH

With the changes in the cost of refuse collection and the terms and conditions of how the cost is calculated it is evident that there is a return to the abundance of “fly-tipping” throughout the county and country. Buttevant is no exception and never before has there been so much evidence of the situation in the town and surrounding areas.

Some people have no regard, respect or pride in their local area and people can be seen dumping rubbish in daylight and in full public view for all to see.

There is no respect shown for people’s property as there is constant tipping on vacant open spaces and also on unoccupied private property. There is dumping regularly close to and within the town and side streets which causes an unslightly and unclean image of the town.

Now with the installation of closed circuit cameras in the town it is easy to identify the perpetraters and the areas being targeted. Within the very near future there are plans to combat this situation and there will be action taken and constant surveillance of the town and environs with relevant consequences.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session continues on Monday night in the local G.A.A. hall with numerous monetary prizes to be won. There is a weekly bingo jackpot to be won as well as an in-house lottery and an extra sheet game. The current jackpot stands at €6,200- and will be increased weekly until luck strikes some attending player. The session gets under way each night at 8.30pm.

PARKING

Parking

in Buttevant

is an ongoing problem and is continously causing traffic chaos, particularly at weekends and during daily business hours.

We have an excellent street surface and an equally excellent footpath structure, although the street width has been reduced somewhat to create a “traffic-calming” situation.

Credit is due to the businesses and their staffs who are using off-street parking, allowing some parking spaces to be freed-up for shoppers. However, more spaces need to shoppers and local businesses.

A unfortunate practice has arisen lately with some drivers parking on the footpaths causing hinderance for the elderly and shoppers who find it difficult to access local businesses. Let us all support our local community and be welcoming to both local visiting and passing trade.
