Stage is set for 10th Kanturk Arts Festival

THE 10th Annual Kanturk Arts Festival kicks off with its official opening by much-loved radio personalit­y 103fm’s Patricia Messenger at O’Callaghan’s Showrooms, Freemount Rd on Thursday, March 15 at 7.30pm.

And Kanturk Arts Festival is delighted to announce that the superb guitar group, Fandango Duo, will be providing the music on the night. Kanturk Arts Festival has pulled off a major coup in getting such a fabulous group to play on the opening night, and the wonderful setting of the showroom in O’Callaghan’s Showrooms will make the occasion even more special.

The Festival’s Invited Artist’s Exhibition will also be launched on the night. This will feature works by North Cork Artists Mary G Sheehan, Viv Buckley and Deborah O’Keeffe.

The winners of the Schools Art Competitio­n, sponsored by Kanturk Credit Union, will also be presented with their awards on the night.

There will be a cheese and wine reception as part of the official opening and every-one is welcome to attend this free event.

The internatio­nally renowned award-winning poet and academic, Cullen born Bernard O’Donoghue, will make a welcome return to Kanturk Arts Festival this year. On Sunday March 18th, Bernard will be guest of honour at an event in The Courthouse, when he will read from some of his published work.

Also included at the same event is a new addition to the pro-gramme this year, “From the Witness Box”, features a number of writers and poets, who will read a short original work of their own to get the afternoon off to a dramatic start. The pieces being read by guest writers will include poetry, comedy, and all things in between.

Unmissable, mark it in your diary for Sunday 18th of March at The Courthouse beginning at 4pm. This event is free.

Guitarist Noel Walsh and baritone Eoin Leahy return to teh festival after their resounding­ly successful concert ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ last year.

The 10th Annual Kanturk Arts Festival runs from Thursday, March 15th to Monday, March 19th. The festival brochure will be available throughout the Duhallow region shortly.
