SNOW IS GONE

We are all after coming out of hibernation, never thought I’d say thank God for rain, but we were lucky in our locality, as we didnt see snow till Friday morning, and people were able to travel again by Sunday. In other parts of the country it’s still difficult to travel, and Mushera still has her white cap on.

WEATHER

The weather conditions over the past week were indeed challenging for all sectors of the community.

Farmers simply didn’t know where the next problem would surface, commuters were grounded, schools closed and everyone was wondering what next.

Thankfully it’s over and full credit to all who helped keep the ship afloat on the snow, particularly the local Super Valu and Coop stores.

There are awards presented for lots of things, all very worthy indeed, but sadly there won’t be any for those heroes who braved the elements to make life easier for the public in such trying circumstances. But if there was such an award one man certainly worthy of recognition is Super Valu Manager Michael Foley who worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone had sufficient food etc.

Michael and his staff didn’t just seem to be there to sell – they were also there to listen and help and give peace of mind to the customers. Well done – take a bow.

PARADE

St Patrick’s Day is next weekend, so the main topic of conversation locally is the annual parade which takes place at 11.45am from the east end to the square. Again, it will be led by the Cullen Pipe Band with flag bearers, vintage cars and tractors, plus all the clubs and schools and organisations in the area participating.

This is the 40th anniversary of this event so the committee are asking that everyone make a special effort to be as colourful as possible and help make it another enjoyable occasion showing the true spirit of Boherbue.

The annual custom of hanging out Shamrock free of charge prior to the 11am mass will again be part of this special day. Afterwards, everyone is invited to the Pearse Memorial Hall for light refreshments and entertainment.

On this Saturday March 10 the committee will be decorating the village with buntings and flags and all householders along the parade route will fly the National Flag.
