Duhallow AC plan to re-fix 10-mile race

-

A NEW date looks set for the Newmarket 10 mile Race following the postponement of last Sunday’s event due to adverse weather conditions.

Duhallow AC Chairman Donie Shine said all were disappointed after snow forced the cancellation of the event.

“The extreme weather situation right across the country was very serious and we felt we would be putting people at risk by asking them to travel to the event. This decision was not been taken lightly and was based entirely on the safety of runners, spectators and volunteers, this was our number one priority and we believe that it would be unfair to expect volunteers and runners and medical staff to stand out in these conditions,” he said.

A course inspection was carried out on Friday and organisers consulted with relevant statutory bodies and agreed to postpone the event.

“We had to take into account factors such as participants traveling from all over Ireland and we did not want to risk leaving it until Saturday morning to inform these people of the sudden change for they may have booked accommodation and may need to give 24 hours notice,” said Donie.

Host club Duhallow AC will confirm a new date ahead of the weekend, indicating that everyone already registered on line for the race will automatically be registered for the new date with a T-shirt and hat guaranteed for participants.
