Patricia to open 10th arts festival

AT 7.30 tonight in O’Callaghan’s Showrooms, 103fm’s Patricia Messenger will officially launch the 10th Kanturk Arts Festival and the Invited Artists Exhibition.

There will be music by the Fandango Duo and a cheese and wine reception sponsored by Glenrua Cheese.

The weekend that follows is an action packed one, full of events and workshops for both adults and children. Friday night at the courthouse, The Enchanted Evening concert with Eoin Leahy and Noel Walsh promises to be a real treat while the young musicians from Scoil Mhuire will also entertain the audience.

The presentati­on of prizes to all the Flash Fiction Winners and a chance to listen to the winning stories also takes place on Friday night at the courthouse.

On Saturday at 8pm at the courthouse, the popular Night of Drama will be staged with music by Colaiste Treasa Trad Group and on Sunday afternoon there will be readings by poet Bernard O’Donoghue and original readings by writers From the Witness Box, including author Mary Bradford, who will read from her new novel, Don’t Call Me Mum, launched just last week.

On Sunday night, ‘Padlock’Pattwell returns for one night only as judge for The Poetry Slam. Other guests include novelist Denyse Woods, artists Viv Buckley, Deborah O’Keeffe and Mary G Sheehan, Mallow Camera Club who will operate a vintage photo booth in the Trades Union Hall and many others.
