Juvenile GAA club celebrate ‘momentous year’
WHAT was described as ‘a momentous year for the 150 children registered in the club’ was celebrated at the Edel Quinn Hall last Friday night when club members, players, families and friends got together for the Kanturk Juvenile GAA Social.
Club Chairman Noel Carroll said that a fantastic evening was had by all who attended, highlighting the benefits of participation in national games and the rewards children get from being active in their community.
“It is not all about success on the field, rather the health and social aspects gained, together with the joy of having friends for life who can be called on at a moment’s notice for help. This unique bond lasts a lifetime,” Noel said.
Organisers and players were delighted to welcome some of the All Ireland Intermediate winning team and management who presented medals to the victorious U12 and U14 winning teams. The U12 Team won the North Region Hurling league final while the U14’s had a superb year winning the North Region Hurling Championship, the North Region Football League & Championship, the County Football Championship and the Cork Féile Hurling Championship. They were named Clayton Hotel Team of the month for June, and to top it all the won the All Ireland Féile Hurling Division 6 Title.
“The club has never seen this level of achievement on the field before from one group of players,” Noel Carroll said. He congratulated the players for the huge amount of effort put in during the year, commended them on the great bond they have created within the groups and wished them all the very best for the forthcoming season.
He also stressed a great appreciation for the parents who carry the lads from one end of the county to the other for matches.
Organisers also thanked Bob’s Bar & Restaurant who provided the beautiful food on the night and Kanturk Community Council for making the hall available.
