‘Town just edge out Kildorrery in league

MITCHELSTO­WN held out for a single point win over Kildorrery in Kildorrery on Friday night. The game was played in wintry conditions with the winners having the aid of the wind in the first half.

Shane O’Neill opened the scoring with a pointed free for the home side. Pat Magee levelled and Mitchelsto­wn edged in front through Michael Walsh after 6 minutes. Liam Keane made it 0-3 to 0-1.

James O’Sullivan landed a very good point for the ‘Hill’ with James Sheehan with a brilliant point opening up a lead 0-4 to 0-2 for the winners. Mitchelsto­wn got on top in midfield where Dave Dineen and Sean O’Sullivan excelled.

They had four points in succession by Michael Walsh (2) Sean O’Sullivan and Dylan Reidy-Price as they moved 0-8 to 0-2 clear. Kildorrery struck for a late goal by Jamie O’Gorman after being put through by Shane O’Neill. At the break a mere 3 points separated the sides 0-8 to 1-2.

Kildorrery dominated exchanges on the restart. Liam Keane had an early point before James McEniry and Sean O’Sullivan swapped a point. The winners had their last score a point by Sean O’Sullivan in the 41st minute.

Kildorrery came very strong. They made some excellent runs but they found scores hard to secure. Richie McEniry pointed a free in the 54th minute. They tried very hard for a goal. Mitchelsto­wn defence held firm.

Kildorrery forced an injury time free close in. Sean O’Sullivan’s attempt for a match winning goal was saved by Cathal O’Sullivan with the rebound going over with the final whistle following.

Best for the winners were Fionn Herlihy, Dave Dineen, Sean O’Sullivan, Pat Magee and Michael Walsh. For Kildorrery Eamonn O’Connor Liam McGrath, Peter O’Brien, Tom Monaghan and Sean O’Sullivan stood out.
