A draw the fitting result after high-scoring clash

Mallow 2-13 Charlevill­e 1-16

A DRAW was a fitting result in this game at Mallow on Sunday.

Both sides were short some key players with Mallow very much understren­gth. There was an early exchange of points before Charlevill­e hit the front. Points in quick succession by P J Copse, Conor Buckley and Danny O’Flynn opened up a three point lead 0-5 to 0-2. Mallow came back well. They relied mainly on Sean Hayes for scores. Hayes struck two frees.

Danny O’Flynn with a point in the 15th minute made it 0-6 to 0-4. A foul on Sean Hayes led to a penalty with Hayes’s effort coming back off the crossbar and being cleared by Cian Collins.

In the 23rd minute Hayes with another free levelled at 0-6 each. The Rathluirc side had points by James Kennedy and Danny O’Flynn before Hayes struck another free from a tight angle 0-8 to 0-7.

The same player tied up the game at 0-8 by the 28th minute. Coming up to half-time Danny O’Flynn pointed a free for Charlevill­e. In injury time Donal Relihan worked well for Sean Hayes who blasted to the net giving his side a 1-8 to 0-9 interval lead.

On the changeover James Kennedy had two points while Aaron Woods pointed for Mallow. Good play by P J Copse led to an equalising point by Tim Hawe. Sean Hayes edged Mallow ahead with another free.

In the 40th minute a free by Danny O’Flynn was finished to the net by Tim Hawe as Charlevill­e moved 1-12 to 1-10 clear. Danny O’Flynn pointed another free. Mallow came back strong Sean Hayes was to the fore adding two points and a goal from a free that put them 2-12 to 1-13 ahead.

Charlevill­e never gave up, late points by Danny O’Flynn and James Kennedy had them level for the 5th time 2-12 to 1-15. In injury time Danny O’Flynn seemed to have secured the winner but a foul on Conor Hannon deep in added time led to a pointed free by Sean Hayes as both sides shared the points.

For Charlevill­e it was their second draw in this league while Mallow lost their opening game to Courcey Rovers.
