Slap-stick and giggles guaranteed in new play

- MARIA HERLIHY catherinenewman11@eircom.net

EXPECT slap-stick humour, plenty of giggles and a nice little plot as Newmarket Drama group take to the stage with their new play, ‘ Touch and Go’ by Derek Benfield.

The play has all the ingredients for a good night out. A brief snippet is that two characters, George and Brian are best friends and they have a ‘good arrangement going.’ While his wife Jessica is abroad on business trips, George lends his flat to Brian to conduct his liaisons with Wendy. Meanwhile, George is cycling to meet Brian’s wife, Hilary. There are a lot of cover ups and a few gallons of sweat lost going to keep the shenanigans going. In between all of this, mix in a pair of bicycle clips, a missing dressing gown and a coq au vin into the bargain.

As always, Newmarket Drama Group have a line up of experienced local actors in Philip Linehan, Teresa O’Keeffe, Gerry Murphy, Noelene Quinn and Martha Keller. Sean Bowman will manage the sound and John O’Sullivan is in the role of stage manager along with Cliona Broderick. The play is directed by Sheila O’Connor and the set was built by Patrick Feehan.

As noted by Sheila O’Connor, she said the group are indebted to IRD Duhallow and especially Con O’Sullivan and his crew who helped them organise the furniture and painting the set.

She also thanked Meelin Hall committee and especially, Nora Brosnan.

The play is on Meelin Hall and it kick starts on Friday, March 23, Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25. In addition, Newmarket Drama Group will tread the boards on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8. The play will start at 8pm sharp on all nights.
