Duhallow and Muskerry enjoy brilliant success in county Scór feast
NO disputing the talents of North and Mid Cork GAA clubs and schools after delivering terrific performances in the Co. Scór na bPaistí Finals hosted in the Éire Óg GAA Pavilion, Ovens last Sunday.
Finalists from throughout the county won the admiration of patrons in the excellent fare served up from the eleven diverse competitions. At the end of terrific live action, Duhallow’s Boherbue, Cullen and Knocknagree figured strongly to record wins as did Ballyvongane for Muskerry.
Boherbue’s Aoife O’Riordan landed a popular win at solo singing thanks to a splendid interpretation of “The Land of the Gael”. Cullen Ballad Group claimed success with harmonies aplenty in their two offerings titled “Song for Ireland” and “Shores of Gallipoli”.
Back came neighbours Boherbue to prominence again in the Leiriú, their production titled “The Hurling Season ” gathering the honours. And Boherbue emerged to the fore at set dancing, their interpretation of the Plain Set good enough to ward off the best intentions of opposing teams drawn from Summercove/Kinsale, Araglen and Ballyvongane.
Boherbue returned to winning ways at question time to land the dividends from Annaleentha after a thrilling playoff. Elsewhere, Carrigaline took the honours in figure dancing title in a presentation of the High Caul that saw off Boherbue, Rusheen and Ballygown.
Brian Flynn representing Dungourney Camogie kept the Imokilly flag flying on winning recitation in a piece titled “The Hurler on the Ditch” with Lucy Teape of Ballinadee taking solo music and Ellie Nic Ghillarnath from Scoil Mhuire, Mayfield enjoyed victory in Solo Dance and Seán O’Keeffe of Knocknagree delivered a slick performance at seanós.
Chairman of Cork County Scór, Tony McAulliffe together with Secretary Margaret Whelan presented the prizes to the winners and runners up.
Boherbue emerged popular winners of the Paddy Carroll Memorial Cup as Best Scór club in the county in a league competition based on participation and success at underage and adult level. In doing so, Boherbue were retaining their title, club representatives Marie Casey and Margaret Kiely accepting the trophy.
For good measure the Best Scór na bPaistí club was also won by Boherbue, the extensive programme compered by Fear An Ti Seán Ó Fathaigh.
