Kildorrery recover from slow start to see off Milford

KILDORRERY after a slow start emerged deserving winners over Milford in the opening round Cavanagh’s Fermoy Div 3 HL at Kildorrery on Monday night.

Milford got off to a great start and six points onthe-trot by Seamus Whelan (4) Brian Villiers and Sean O’Riordan had them 0-6 to 0- 0 ahead after 18 minutes. Gradually Kildorrery got on top they improved a lot in the half-back line and midfield sectors.

James Magner opened with a point with Tiernan Condon placing Sean Young for a fine point. Sean Young pointed a free and the sides were level in the 23rd minute when Liam O’Keeffe worked well for James Magner who netted. Both sides missed a few chances with Jamie O’Gorman with a late point giving Kildorrery an interval lead 1-4 to 0- 6.

Milford levelled on the resumption when a foul on Aidan O’Gorman produced a pointed free by Seamus Whelan. Dylan Kent and Seamus Whelan swopped good points. Dylan Kent thundered into the game at centre back for the ‘ Hill’.

He pointed a free with Aidan O’Gorman levelling for Milford. Sean Young edged Kildorrery ahead with Paddy Hartnett following with a point. Two long range pointed frees by Dylan Kent opened up a four point lead 1-10 to 0- 9. Milford battled to the end. They came close to a goal on two occasions.

Dave Roche made a vital save and Dylan Kent cleared off the line as Milford tried very hard for a goal. Seamus Whelan and Aidan O’Gorman landed late points for Milford but it was Kildorrery

with a 57th minute pointed free by Dylan Kent and a late Sean Young free that sealed victory by a four point margin.
