St Joseph’s spring fair comes on foundation’s 50th year
THE 2018 Spring Fair in aid of St, Joseph’s Foundation Charleville on Sunday, April 29 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Foundation and will be officially opened by Dr. Martin O’Donnell, the man responsible for start-up in 1968.
The event is the main fund-raising day for St. Joseph’s and takes place at their campus on Baker’s Road, Charleville starting at 1.30pm.
The money raised goes towards providing the services to service users across their catchment area in an area along the North Cork and South Limerick county border. This year’s event promises to be one of the best yet and is bound to attract a huge number of supporters to enjoy a fun filled afternoon.
The programme for the day will feature stalls as usual with books and bottles, crafts, cakes and ceramics, home produce, toys and a euro stall and the white elephant stall, which always a draw a big interest, and those are only the indoor events.
Outside there are bouncy castles for the children, slides and an obstacle course, pony rides and penalty- taking, golf putting, basketball, face painting and guess the glugger. There will be music and song a-plenty from Charleville Brass and Reed Band and entertainer Billy O’Brien and friends.
There will be a raffle with a first prize of €1,000 with€500 and €250 for second and third respectively, and there is also a separate raffle for a heifer calf, so some lucky person could get an introduction to calf rearing at the Spring Fair in Charleville. This is a great community event for a brilliant cause and is deserving of every support from the general public.
The Spring Fair follows the launch of their book, ‘ To Care,’ which traces the last fifty years of the Association which was launched by Millstreet’s Joanne O’Riordan last month. The book was dedicated to have made the work for St. Joseph’s Foundation possible and to the service users and their families, the volunteers, supporters and staff who have worked so hard over the years to create a special environment that is at St. Joseph’s.
St. Joseph’s Foundation provides a full range of quality services and supports for people with disabilities in the North Cork and South Limerick areas, whether they are babies, toddlers, school children, teenagers or adults. Supports are also provided for family members.
As well as being the main fundraiser for the Foundation it is a great family day out. The Glenbridge garden centre will also be open and members of Charleville Flower Club will give a demonstration of flower arranging and refreshments will be available all afternoon.
They are also looking for volunteers to help out over the afternoon and Maura Twomey would be delighted to hear from any interested in helping out. She may be reached at 063-21679 if you would like to be part of the team to make Spring Fair ’18 happen.
