Tractors show their pulling power
A HINT of summer surfaced for a tractor run through scenic countryside that attracted phenomenal interest to Kilcorney last Sunday.
The modern workhorses were washed and polished for an eyecatching public display of machinery with more than 230 tractors convening for the Ned Tarrant Memorial Tractor Run, organised by Banteer Macra and friends in Kilcorney.
On a day when the weather had blessed proceedings a terrific atmosphere surfaced, as the staging supported Mallow Search and Rescue. And the success of the event was confirmed when more than €10,000 was raised, which was met with a delighted response from organisers.
“We were overwhelmed by the response of so many people. Tractor owners came from many areas and the public, too, convened to support and add to the occasion”, said spokesperson David Murphy.
“The support confirms the popularity of the late Ned, also.
“There are so many people to thank, those who participated, stewards and the many that worked the scenes,” David added.
Off to a revving start, the 230 plus tractors were waved off from Kilcorney Churchyard as the impressive cavalcade embarked on a picturesque jaunt through countryside to Millstreet and onto the famous Butter Road and a return to Kilcorney for a barbeque at Moll Carthy’s Bridge.
With subscriptions continuing to come in this week, the undertaking supported a voluntary organisation founded in 1983, Mallow Search and Rescue, involved in water based missing persons searches and escort boats for water based events.
