Fermoy snappers have wow

Factor

- BILL BROWNE

MEMBERS of the Fermoy Camera Club captured some magical moments from nature for their April monthly competition, with some stunning images perfectly capturing that all too often illusive ‘wow’ factor.

For the club’s latest challenge members were, according to PRO Helen Arnold, charged with the task of capturing a subject “with just a little something special.”

“Judges were looking for something out of the ordinary, larger than life, powerful and impressive. Something that stands out as special, unique, wonderful or beautiful,” said Helen.

Club members took up the challenge with their usual gusto and enthusiasm, with judges given the tough task of picking out the winners from the 34 competition entries.

After much deliberation the first overall and grade one award went to Finbarr O’Hanlon for his stunning image of a pair of birds captured in flight.

Donagh Cronin scooped second overall and the grade two award for his picture of a quizzical looking squirrel, Eimear Quigley won third overall with her brooding picture of a bird of prey and Helen Coughlan the grade three award for her picture of an owl aptly perched on a camera lens.

Projected images are now being accepted for the club’s next competition under the theme ‘Signs of Spring’. The final date for digital entries to the competition, which will be judged by members of the Mallow Camera Club, will be Friday, May 18.

In the meantime, Helen said the club is gearing up for yet another year of fields trips including the annual ‘ big trip’, which will be to Nerja in Spain later on this year.

“In the more immediate future we have also planned trips to Curraghmore House & Gardens, The Falconry in Kilmallock, The Saltees, and Spike Island. If you are interested in going on any of these outings please contact one of the Outings Committee to book your seat,” said Helen. “New members are always welcome, so come along to our fortnightly meetings at Fermoy Community Centre, meet our members and find out how to become part of this vibrant club.”
