Muskerry athletes add to medal collection

WEST Muskerry AC competed in the second leg of the West Cork Track and Field Championsh­ips on Sunday last and all had a great day. There were a lot of new athletes competing for the first time and they went out and gave it a go. They also tried some new events that the club would not have the facility to train for like the High Jump.

In the U20 1,500m, Stephen Bradley achieved a new person best time and won the bronze medal. Cathal Ryan competed in the U20 100m and 400m and achieved a personal best time in the 400m and won the silver medal in both events.

In the U20, Stephanie Cotter achieved a personal best time in the 400m and was rewarded with the silver medal. Macdara O’Conaola ran a superb U16 1,500m race and was rewarded with the silver medal and in the U16’s girls relay Sinead Hurley, Danielle O`Neill, Eve Murphy, Emer O’Sullivan and Katelyn Cronin ran well and were rewarded with the bronze medals.

Saorlaith Murphy jumped superb and was rewarded with the bronze medal with a jump of 3 metres 50 cm in the Girls U 12.

All the other athletes ran, jumped, and threw but were out of the medals on this occasion. They were Darragh Murphy, Darragh Manning, Mark Andrew Dineen, Ronan O’Neill, Ciaran O’Sullivan, Katelyn Cronin, Katelyn O’Sullivan, Mia O’Sullivan, Olivia Moynihan, Ian Kelleher, Brigin Kelleher, Sarah O`Neill, Shannon Cotter,

Meanwhile, well done to Jerry Cronin of West Muskerry who ran the Cobh 10-mile Road Race on Sunday last.

There’s great news for Muskerry Special Olympics Club who have two athletes selected to compete for Team Munster in the Ireland Games in Dublin nex month.

Cathy Dullea and Katie Maloney are both competing in the 100m and the 200m and Cathy has also been selected on the relay. It is a great achievemen­t for both girls and they are now training hard for the Ireland Games.

Both girls attended the Launch of Team Munster in the City Hall Cork on Monday last and watched the Flame of Hope leave City Hall by An Garda Síochana

Also, huge congratula­tion to John Cronin of West Muskerry AC who completed the Boston Marathon in a time of 3 hours and 17 mins.
