Newmarket turn on the style
Newmarket 2-17 St Johns 1-5
NEWMARKET turned on the style in the opening half to get the better of St. Johns in the Nevin Cup JBFL played at Station Road.
St Johns battled hard but they were never able to retrieve a fourteen point interval deficit. A far more experienced Newmarket had held command from the off with Paudie Allen, Paddy Browne, Darren O’Keeffe and TJ Bodie to the fore.
Up front, Ryan O’Keeffe led the way in the shooting stakes and a goal helped secure a 1-8 to 0-0 interval advantage. St Johns rose their game upon the resumption, the efforts of David Barrett, John O’Mahony and Denis O’Keeffe offering encouragement.
The deficit was reduced, courtesy of a goal netted by Barrett. However Newmarket always held enough in reserve before Robert Stack netted a second goal to seal the deal.
