Millstreet strike back late on at Cullen

-

Cullen 1-12 Millstreet 2-9

MILLSTREET wiped out a six point deficit to rescue a share of the spoils with Cullen in an exciting climax to the Ducon Cup played in Cullen.

Not making the most of their opportunities when controlling matters means Cullen will regard this an opportunity lost to gather maximum points. To their credit, Millstreet hung in and availed of two late goals for a stalemate situation.

Earlier Cullen appeared to be a side with much more to offer as the occasion demanded thanks to the input of Conor O’Connor, Daire Twomey, Colin O’Leary and Michael Twomey. The latter netted a goal to allow Cullen enjoy a grip only for Millstreet to rally, points by Tadgh Collins and Niall Flahive cut the leeway 1-6 to 0-7 at the break.

Again Cullen took up the running on the restart, Tomás O’Keeffe and O’Leary posting points, Millstreet thankful to ‘keeper Dylan O’Leary on his alertness between the posts. Though trailing by six points, Millstreet weren’t prepared to roll over just yet, thrown a lifeline from a Flahive goal.

That score gave Millstreet renewed energy, now coming forward in waves, full back Alan Murphy emerged the savior on netting a late goal for a share of the spoils.

Boherbue 2-13 Knocknagree 0-4

BOHERBUE delivered a highly efficient performance during the second half to prove far superior for Knocknagree in the Ducon Cup played in Boherbue. Operating with a pace and a direction that Knocknagree failed to match the superior force of a Boherbue side that imposed themselves in the key departments.

The early exchanges were full of nip and tuck fare, a pair of John O’Keeffe points for Knopcknagree answered by Boherbue’s Andrew O’Connor and Kevin Cremin. For a spell, Knocknagree held their own through the guiding efforts of Gearóid Looney, John O’Keeffe and Denis O’Connor to trail 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.

Upon the resumption, Boherbue picked up the tempo under the direction of Michael O’Connor, Kevin Cremin and Bryan Murphy. Going forward, a series of attacks contributed to well taken scores that included a fine goal from Jerry O’Sullivan.

There was no stopping Boherbue now, plenty of industry and hard running kept the scoreboard ticking nicely and a second goal by C J O’Sullivan capped an impressive performance.

Dromtariffe 2-18 Kiskeam 0-8

DROMTARIFFE continued on winning ways to better Kiskeam in the Ducon Cup played at Kiskeam.

Performing a brand of open, fast and attacking football, Dromtariffe were good value for their victory. Kiskeam attempted to recover from a nervous opening and worked hard to erase a deficit but they came up short against a more balanced visiting combination.

The victors were quickly into their stride, boosted by the solid play of a dominant defence to ensure a liberal supply of ball into attack to enjoy a 1-9 to 0-2 advantage at the break.

Kiskeam crept back into contention on the restart yet Dromtariffe always had the facility to respond and pull away for a merited win.
